Security
How does Monio connect to my bank?
Through Plaid. You sign in to your bank inside Plaid's secure window, so your login never reaches Monio. Monio can see your balances and transactions, but it can never move money.
Does Monio see or store my bank login?
No. Your bank username and password go to Plaid, never to Monio.
Is my data encrypted?
Traffic to Monio uses HTTPS, and provider tokens are encrypted before they are stored. Access rules check that each record belongs to you or was shared with your household.
Does Monio work in Canada?
Yes. Monio works in the US and Canada. Choose Canada when you set up Monio and it connects Canadian banks and cards through Plaid and shows your money in Canadian dollars. Monio's prices are in US dollars.
Can Monio move money?
No. Every bank connection only lets Monio see your accounts. Monio cannot start transfers, payments or any other movement of money.
Pricing
How much does Monio cost?
Monio Pro is $7.99 a month or $80 a year (save 17%), billed through Stripe. A household seat for a partner is $5 a month. Every new account starts with a 7-day free trial, and no credit card is needed.
What happens after the free trial?
Monio is locked until you choose a plan. Your connected accounts and history stay saved, so everything is there when you subscribe.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from Settings and keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
Spending and budgets
Do I have to sort every transaction myself?
No. Monio sorts transactions into categories for you and leaves out card payments and transfers between your own accounts. If a category is wrong, fix it once and Monio remembers it.
Can Monio suggest a budget for me?
Yes. Monio drafts a first budget from your recent spending and never sets a limit below fixed costs like rent. You can change or remove any limit.
How much history does Monio import?
Monio asks for up to 24 months of transactions when you connect an account. How far back it goes depends on what your bank shares with Plaid.
Data privacy
Does Monio sell my data?
No. Monio never sells personal data.
What does the AI see?
Monio AI is on by default. Monio tells you once before it is used, and you can turn it off any time in Settings. It receives finance totals and the transaction details needed for the task, such as dates, amounts, merchants, account names, and bank descriptions with numbers and email addresses removed. That can include the note on a Venmo, PayPal or Cash App payment, and Splitwise bill and group names. The AI is Anthropic's Claude. What you type into a question is sent as you wrote it. Monio never adds your email address, notes you add in Monio, email bodies or bank logins.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can request a private export of your records from Settings.
What happens when I delete my account?
Monio removes your account and records and disconnects your linked services. If a disconnection fails, Monio keeps retrying until it succeeds.
Accounts and household
Which accounts can I connect?
Banks, credit cards and investment accounts that Plaid supports, plus Splitwise for shared expenses.
Can my partner and I share a household?
Yes. Each partner keeps their own sign-in and chooses which accounts to share. The household view adds up shared spending without counting money moved between you twice.
How does Monio handle Splitwise?
Connect Splitwise and Monio links each shared bill to the card charge. Only your share counts as spending, and money friends pay you back is not counted as income.
